LA Clippers: Joakim Noah’s 10-day contract to be converted for rest of season
By Duncan Smith
On Saturday the NBA released more information surrounding how 10-day contracts will be handled. Joakim Noah and the LA Clippers will benefit as he’ll be the first to have his converted for the rest of the season.
We’ve finally entered the portion of the season where we can expect a bit of NBA news every day, whether good or bad. On Saturday, we got some good news. The league has set their transaction window which will span from June 23rd to June 30th, and that means that 10-day contracts will expire on that date of June 23rd. One such contract that will expire that day belongs to Joakim Noah of the LA Clippers.
Noah will actually be among the first beneficiaries of this clarification as The Athletic’s Shams Charania has reported that his 10-day deal will be converted to a regular contract for the rest of the season.
This contract was signed on March 9th, just two days before the NBA season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic on March 11th. A simple 10-day contract has blossomed into a deal that will last about three and a half months by the time it concludes.

Because Noah didn’t play at all this season for any other team, he’ll be eligible for the playoffs. Of course, 10-day contracts don’t generally end up being on the floor much at all, let alone in high-leverage playoff games, but it can’t hurt to have his veteran presence on this experienced and battle-hardened LA Clippers team.
He joins such late-season additions as Reggie Jackson, Marcus Morris on a roster with glittering talents like Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams. It’s a roster without any holes or weaknesses, and if Joakim Noah is just along for the ride, there are worse rides to take.
Noah hasn’t been an every-day player since 2014-15 with the Chicago Bulls when he played 67 games. Since then, due to injuries, he has played just 124 games in four active seasons with the New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies, and hasn’t played at all in the league since March 23rd of 2019.
At the age of 35, this might be Noah’s last chance at an NBA championship, but it’ll be the best one he’s ever had.
