Replacement player options for Philadelphia 76ers when the NBA season resumes
Tyler Johnson
Now this name doesn’t come with much hype or a 6th man award, but Tyler Johnson is a solid role player. Released by the Phoenix Suns shortly after the deadline, Johnson now has a chance to sign with a new team and try to revive his career.
The undrafted combo guard out of Fresno State spent his first four and half years in Miami before being shipped out to Phoenix during the 2018-19 campaign. Before being cut by the Suns this past February, Johnson found himself buried on the depth chart similar to Crawford’s stint in the Valley of the Sun.
He may never be a sixth man candidate or an All-Star, but Johnson most certainly deserves another shot at an NBA job, and I believe he would fit in with the Sixers system just fine. I can’t stress enough how badly the Sixers need to add a three-point shooter to their roster.
Even if Johnson doesn’t crack the active roster, he should at least be considered for a replacement spot. Even after shooting just 28.9 percent from three in 31 appearances this season with the Suns, Johnson is still shooting a respectable 35.8 percent from three for his career.
