1. Jeremy Lin — 2011–2012 season

Linsanity was a truly special moment from the last decade. At its height, it had people with no interest in basketball following the sport on a game-by-game basis.

It all began when Jeremy Lin scored 25 points and notched seven assists off the bench against the Nets in a mid-season divisional contest. The performance came out of nowhere as many within the team had projected Lin to be just a third-string talent.

But this was just the beginning.

Lin continued to string together all-around potent scoring performances in February. His most notable came against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. In an ESPN nationally televised game, Lin showcased to a larger audience that he was not just a one-hit-wonder. He did just that and more with a 38-point showing on 56.5 percent shooting. He drove to the rim with ease and displayed his potential as an isolation scorer in a Knicks win.

Knicks fans loved every second of it.

He went on to become the biggest story in the NBA over the month thanks to performances such as his 27-point showing against the Toronto Raptors where he drilled the game-winning shot.

The hype surrounding Linsanity diminished over March and subsequently came to an end after he was sidelined for the rest of the season due to a knee injury.

Even if it was for a mere 35 games, Knicks basketball became must-watch TV again. It was enjoyable and entertaining to watch a player who went from being one of the least known players in the NBA to one of the most-talked-about athletes in all of sports.
