Will the team obtain a number one seed?

As a tune-up, teams will play eight regular-season games. The Clippers are currently 5.5 games back of the Los Angeles Lakers for the number one spot. Being able to wrest away the number one seed is possible but highly unlikely.

A benefit of the number one seed is an easier road to the NBA Finals. Right now the Clippers would have to face Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in the first round and then either the Denver Nuggets or James Harden and Russell Westbrook’s Houston Rockets in the second round. The road to the playoffs would be tough because they could possibly play an MVP candidate in Doncic and two past MVP winners in Westbrook and Harden.

The Rockets are also historically great at 3-point shooting so anything can happen in that series. A number one seed would mean they have to play against the Memphis Grizzlies or some West team that scraped by to get into the playoffs and then a second-round series against the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder.

That would be much easier due to the lack of superstars.

There is no home-court advantage because of there being no fans and it being a neutral site but the psychological effects of getting a number one seed could do wonders in the current climate. Having a better record means that you are better than the other team and that’s all a team may need to know.
