1. Washington Wizards

Don’t sleep on the Washington Wizards this offseason. They’ll have plenty of cap space to land some attractive free agents and could also make a splash in the NBA Draft with a potential lottery pick.

The Wizards will likely have both John Wall and Bradley Beal healthy and ready to make a run at a return to the playoffs next season. The addition of Tristan Thompson would help their chances.

Washington will have many decisions to make in the upcoming offseason to improve their roster, but signing an experienced center could be a priority. One of their current centers, Ian Mahinmi, will also become an unrestricted free agent in 2020 and I assume they will let him walk, leaving the door wide open for the acquisition of Tristan Thompson.

The fit certainly makes sense for a team looking to make a massive competitive leap in the East. The Wizards would value a player of Thompson’s caliber since he would complement both their star players and provide a veteran presence in the locker room.

Whether he is starting at center or coming off the bench, he could prove to be an important piece for Washington. He would at least compete for the starting position with the lack of centers that the Wizards possess.

The only center on contract for the Wizards next season is Thomas Bryant, a young player out of Indiana that has become a great asset to the team (I’d consider Moritz Wagner a stretch-4). Bryant has proved to be a solid contributor and looks to be part of the future in Washington. Thompson could also help him develop while possibly splitting minutes with him on the floor.

The Wizards seem to be a very realistic destination for Tristan Thompson due to the appropriate fit within the roster, the cap space that they will hold, and the possibility of agreeing to a long-term deal if that’s what Thompson prefers.
