NBA: 20 ridiculously obscure NBA All-Star seasons that we totally forgot
By Jono Perilli
19: Mo Williams (2008-09)
Season Stats: 17.8 points, 4.1 assists per game
Including Mo Williams on this list is more based on the fact that The Hitman has faded away from the limelight, and fans have almost forgotten how great he actually was in Cleveland.
A true shooting genius, Williams was an over-looked specimen, that fans forgot was in the higher levels of the league. Williams’ All-Star nod was based on the fact that he was playing alongside Lebron James, and it wouldn’t hurt to have the best player in the league’s teammate.
Plus, Williams was playing great, as the team’s second scoring threat, he was able to fit perfectly alongside Lebron’s fairly mannered offense. Williams is the case of an unlikely player to get acknowledged by the NBA since he hadn’t really garnered that much attention from fans.
Williams wasn’t undeserving since he was playing out-of-his-mind, it’s based more on the basis that he had become more of an afterthought as his career rolled on. We’re including Williams here because he was an unlikely prospect. It’s also worth noting that Mo Buckets never really had a season after this, slowly down-scaling into a reliable roleplayer more than anything. His main issue was that he wasn’t the most efficient scorer in the league, struggling to consistently score on good field goal percentages.
Still, problems or not, Williams is still a puzzling case of an unlikely player making the All-Star team.
