1: Christian Laettner (1996-97)

Season Stats: 18.1 points, 8.8 rebounds per game

Oh, Christian, you’re crazy. There was a point in time where you the most hated player in NCAA. But I’ll give it to you, you’re a Duke legend.

A lot of fans know Christian Laettner for the wrong reasons. He was that player on the 1992 Dream Team that people completely misunderstood his spot on the team. But, there was a point where people considered Laettner super highly before his NBA career would commence.

That wouldn’t be the case, unfortunately, and Laettner would go on to have an okay career, putting up semi-great numbers on a losing Minnesota Timberwolves squad. His numbers meant almost nothing because of how legitimately bad the team was.

But, after he left Minnesota, Laettner would find some bright spots in his short, yet decent run in Atlanta. Bright enough to earn our friend an All-Star spot amid his stint there. Call it undeserving, but Laettner was a good piece on a winning Hawks squad that was looking to leap into Finals contention. Nothing is wrong here right?

Well, our friend Christian, was selected over Reggie Miller, of all players. Uncle Reg was playing some of the best basketball of his career, even though the Indiana Pacers weren’t necessarily top-notch. Still, this selection is a clear snub case, at it’s finest.

Laettner’s All-Star selection is puzzling since he’d never go and perform the same again.
