17: Mehmet Okur (2006-07)

Season Stats: 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds per game

This selection is arguably a favorite to talk about because Mehmet Okur was a genuinely forgotten star, that has gone unnoticed since he retired in the early 2010s.

This is a case of an unlikely player being nominated for the spot. Mehmet Okur was (and still is mind you) one of the most underrated players going around at the time, simply because of his ability to break the game of basketball.

Okur wasn’t your conventional center, he was a laser from three, breaking barriers for the new generation of NBA. He was recognized for his impact when he was nominated for an All-Star appearance in 2007. Money Man never really struck fans as an All-Star caliber guy, but he truly was.

It’s also worth noting that the Jazz were on a tear and Okur was one of their go-to guys on offense, stretching the floor. It just came more of a surprise to see Okur being nominated for an All-Star spot, since he was so foreign compared to other big-men at the time, though that would change in a matter of a decade. Okur was a revolving shooter, who could consistently shoot the three-ball when given the chance.

We’re happy to say that Okur was an All-Star, even though it still comes off as unusual.
