2. Moses Malone

But when Erving won that championship, it is forgotten that Moses Malone was the Finals MVP, averaging 25.8 points and 18 rebounds to beat the showtime Los Angeles Lakers. That has to be one of the most dominant Finals performances ever against one of the best teams ever.

See, Malone was the reason I made this list in the first place, because he has the most underrated career ever. He was an All-Star for 12 consecutive years on four different teams where he won the MVP award three times. That’s why he is the poster boy for this list.

Nine different teams, ABA and NBA, and the only centers to have more MVPs than him are Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

Yet Malone is an afterthought when discussing the greatest centers of all time. His best years were in Houston, but Rocket fans hold Hakeem Olajuwon as the all-time franchise center. And fair enough, he only spent six seasons there, one of them averaging 31.1 points and 14.7 rebounds.

Instead, he was bounced from team to team due to out of his hand franchise decisions but always found a way to make it work. Another reason his career became an afterthought is that he had zero personality and didn’t like attention. Being the greatest rebounder just isn’t as marketable as being Magic Johnson or Julius Erving. Malone is the most forgotten superstar ever.
