Boston Celtics: 4 worst things this season for the Celtics
By Bill Barry
Romeo Langford’s disappointing start
Before we even discuss the Boston Celtics initial selection in the 2019 NBA draft, we must get past missing out on University of Kentucky 6′ 4″ shooting guard Tyler Herro. The Celtics were so close. They could almost hear Herro’s jump shot sliding through the Boston Garden nets. Until the Miami Heat nabbed the sharpshooter one selection before the green. It was quickly back to the drawing board. But it was a major disappointment.
With their choice at number 14, the Boston Celtics went the direction of a versatile guard/forward with clear athletic ability in 6′ 4″ Indiana University star Romeo Langford. But health issues delayed Langford’s progress and he split time between Boston and their developmental team, the Maine Red Claws.
As a member of the Celtics, he did show he is extremely athletic. His moves to the hoop were smooth and effortless. It was impressive. But he never did show the game expected of a top 15 pick. And, worse, Herro has thrived in Miami with his lights-out, long-distance shooting.
So, while there was no ability to influence where they picked, their initial choice, at least at this early point, has to be considered a disappointment.
