3. MJ in Washington

This is a story that probably should have never happened, yet we’re looking back on it as the last few seasons of Michael Jordan’s game-changing career.

The Last Dance did a great job of tying up those loose ends, especially since we conclude that MJ retired after their 1997-98 championship. But damn, they did not mention his third NBA stint in 2001 for the Washington Wizards. Picture this, a 38-year-old MJ playing his final seasons in Washington, a terrible team at the time.

It was a worrying conclusion to one of the most influential careers in sports history. But who cared? It was Michael Jordan. He wanted to go out on his terms.

This stint in Washington wasn’t quite bad. He averaged 21.2 points per game on decent efficiency in his late 30s. Some fans would argue that his stint was underrated. Hard to consider anything the GOAT does as underrated.

His two seasons in Washington weren’t as glamorous as those Chicago days. His best teammates were Richard Hamilton and Jerry Stackhouse. That’s no disrespect to them, but they’re nowhere near the same level as Pippen and Rodman.

Still, NBA fans want and need a proper conclusion to the MJ saga, rather than ending on the fact that he retired with the Bulls for good. The Last Dance needed, a ‘Where are they now’ bonus episode, and this episode would serve perfectly for the main focal point.
