San Antonio Spurs: Ranking the last 10 first-round picks
6. James Anderson
During his junior season at Oklahoma State, James Anderson earned Big 12 Player of the Year honors. Unfortunately, his stock wouldn’t soar any higher than that when he arrived to the Spurs.
San Antonio selected Anderson with the 20th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. His rookie season was dogged by a stress fracture in his right foot and various trips back and forth with the team’s D-League squad, then the Austin Toros. He played in 26 games, averaging 3.6 points per game.
During his second season, Anderson nearly doubled the number of games he played in but failed to improve otherwise, averaging 3.7 points per game while seeing a significant downtick in his 3-point shooting. He became a free agent after the season and signed with the Atlanta Hawks.
After being waived by the Hawks before the 2012-13 season, Anderson wound up back with the Spurs for one more stint. It didn’t last long, as he played just 10 games before being waived by the Spurs. He was eventually picked up by the Houston Rockets.
The small forward/shooting guard hybrid managed to hang around the league through the 2015-16 season and was even a full-time starter for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013-14. He currently plays for Anadolu Efes, where he won a Turkish League championship in 2019.
