Los Angeles Lakers: 5 free agent targets for crucial offseason
By Dalton Sell
Alec Burks
Much like teammate Glenn Robinson III, Alec Burks had a breakout season with the Golden State Warriors this season and carried it over to the Philadelphia 76ers. With their previously mentioned guard depth potentially thinning after this season, Burks is an ideal candidate to bring in and run that second unit.
The Lakers scoured the market all season in search of an upgrade at the backup point guard position, the most prominent being Derrick Rose, but they were unable to pull off a trade. Alec Burks would be a perfect candidate if they were to search for the answer in free agency rather than trade.
The hybrid guard averaged 15.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game this season as he added new career-highs across the board. Though Burks’ playmaking appeared questionable this season, he solidified himself as a legitimate scorer off of the bench. Although not listed as a point guard, he could be an ideal fit for Los Angeles’ guard needs, especially if they were to lose depth.
Having landed on his fifth team in the past two seasons after the trade to Philadelphia, Burks could once again be on the move this offseason after the best season of his career. Alec Burks could provide a significant contribution to both the team’s guard needs and bench scoring. Another affordable option in free agency, the Los Angeles Lakers should target the guard for the right price.
