Los Angeles Lakers: 5 free agent targets for crucial offseason
By Dalton Sell
Justin Holiday
With a significant amount of their guard rotation set to become free agents this offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers may need to scour the market for a few replacements. One potential suitor could be Justin Holiday, currently under contract for the Indiana Pacers.
Fresh off back to back seasons having averaged double-digit scoring, Holiday saw a minimized role in his first year with the Indiana Pacers because of their bountiful guard depth. Still, the guard made the most of his minutes when he played, having averaged 8.4 points per game on 44.0 percent field goal shooting and a stellar 42.4 percent 3-point shooting.
Holiday showcased himself as an ideal reserve with his play this past season and could be of interest to the Los Angeles Lakers. The guard showed that he can shoot the ball at an efficient rate, particularly from behind the arc, something that the Lakers could have used this past season. The team ranked 16th in bench 3-point percentage at 34.3 percent, and while not an awful number, it is an area they could have used a spark.
With Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Avery Bradley, and Dion Waiters potentially looking for new homes this offseason, Holiday could fill a void in the team’s shooting guard depth. At 31-years-old, Holiday is an experienced veteran who could come in and be a vital piece to this contending team’s title aspirations.
Justin Holiday could be another low-cost option on the market for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason and could be a free agent steal if they can sign him on a team-friendly deal. A lethal threat off the bench with the ball in his hands, the Lakers should make a run at Holiday to strengthen their second unit.
