Minnesota Timberwolves: Top free agents to consider
By Ethan Becker
2. Ethan’s Pick: Kyle Korver (MIL, UFA)
Right, so this one’s probably no surprise to people who have read a few of my articles, but I can’t help it: I’m really high on Kyle Korver. In fact, when I talked about this subject last year, Korver was a name I mentioned in the end of the piece.
Korver is a former All-Star, a lights-out shooter and was drafted historic 2003 draft. Everything seemed set for him to make a huge impact in this league, but alas, it never happened.
Regardless, Korver’s offense can’t be overlooked, especially when you consider the more analytical approach to the game that the front office is pushing for. Korver’s rebounding is fairly solid for someone his size, and his defense could be helpful, though he isn’t the best at either.
The downside to Korver, mainly, is age. He’s coming into the twilight of his career, and considering he’s been on eight teams over his 17-year career, he’ll probably be hoping to settle down with a championship contender to end his career. Still, a veteran who’s led the league in 3-point percentage four times and who could provide some key experience would benefit greatly.
LA: The sharpshooting wing has made a crazy career over the years for a guy that was traded for a copy machine. He’s taken his niche and became arguably the best non-volume shooter to ever play the game. Korver’s elite shooting paired with Karl-Anthony Towns, Malik Beasley, and D’Angelo Russell could give Minnesota the best set of four shooters in the league. The idea of him on the Timberwolves would be great if he’d be willing to join a non-contending team. The bonus here is that Korver is probably vastly more affordable than other skilled played at his position.
