Minnesota Timberwolves: Top free agents to consider
By Ethan Becker
3. Logan’s pick: Kris Dunn (CHI, RFA)
Who doesn’t love bringing back a former Timberwolf? Kris Dunn did fetch the team Jimmy Butler the last time he was on the roster, it could be a similar case (Devin Booker?) this time around too.
However, Dunn would add an extra element to the team as their primary guard minute getters–D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Jordan McLaughlin–aren’t exactly known for their defensive chops. Sure, there’s Josh Okogie and Jarrett Culver, however, Dunn is able to play point guard more comfortably and adds a stronger defensive element to the team.
The one thing that would make things hard to bring Dunn in though is that it would be hard to find minutes for all of the aforementioned players and him unless someone’s traded. He’s likely available for south of $4 million a year and depending on how things shake out, he fits well with the Wolves Big 3 of Russell, Beasley, and Towns.
EB: What’s that meme? Yeah…it’s a no for me dawg? Because, yeah, that’s how I feel.
Dunn does have a great defensive game, he always has, but the holes in his game are just a little too big for me to be ok with. Dunn’s shooting leaves a lot to be desired, especially from long range. Not only that, but his numbers took a big hit this season, going down in almost every category.
Plus, I think Dunn would struggle for minutes on the team. In competing with Russell, Culver, and McLaughlin–all of whom fit the team identity better than Dunn–the young guard would probably spend most of his time on the bench.
