The LA Clippers made a great decision in picking up Landry Shamet in the Tobias Harris trade. They acquired a tough player for the future.

We all know the LA Clippers have a deep team and that depth is one of the reasons why they are so good. Some people might not know the players that make up this deep team though. Unless you are a Clippers fan or a big fan of the NBA, the names JaMychal Green, Maurice Harkless and Landry Shamet might be foreign to you.

Those players though are names that have helped make up the roster. While they are not the greatest players what they do for this team is invaluable. Shamet is one of those special names to watch.

More from Hoops Habit

He is a young player at just 22. Shamet is one of the few young players that the Clippers have to develop. He will be a valuable piece for the team in the future. Shamet is not going to be a superstar but you know he is going to knock down threes and play tough the whole 48 minutes.

He was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft. It was up in the air if he would play point guard or shooting guard but eventually, the shooting guard position was the ideal fit for him.

He immediately impressed in Philadelphia. As a member of the team, he averaged 8.3 points per game and shot 42.2 percent from three in 54 games. He was then traded to the LA Clippers in the Tobias Harris trade. In his first 25 games as a Clipper, he averaged 10.9 points per game and shot 45.0 percent from three.

This season is his first full season as a Clipper. He is averaging 9.7 points per game and shooting 39.2 percent from three. Shamet is deadly accurate from three. He will have a long career because he has the ability to knock down threes efficiently.

When you are a player and you have a certain aspect of your game that you do better than most, it’s sure to keep you in demand for a long time. For example, Kyle Korver is a 3-point specialist that has enjoyed a long career.

Shamet is also incredibly tough. There have been games where he has been able to will the team past tough competition. Last year as a member of the Sixers the team had to face the Golden State Warriors in Oakland when the Warriors had Kevin Durant.

In that game, Shamet led the bench with 10 points and he shot 3-of-4 from three, good for 75.0 percent. That was a big win for the team and they knew they were contenders after that game.

In the playoffs, as a member of the LA Clippers, he helped lead his team to a surprising Game 2 victory in Oakland against the Warriors. In that game, he had 12 points and was 4-of-9 from three.

Shamet will be a great player for the Clippers down the road. He will be able to hit big shots for any team that he plays for and he has proven that he can excel against tough competition.
