Honorable Mention: DeAndre Jordan’s 2015 free-agency

DeAndre Jordan seemed headed to the Dallas Mavericks as an unrestricted free agent in 2015 because that’s what the reports indicated. It was that simple. Nothing could be made official until after the NBA’s moratorium period. What reason did anyone have to think otherwise after the decision had seemingly been conceived?

Once it was revealed, however, that Jordan was having second thoughts, members of the LA Clippers pounced at the chance to bring back the piece needed for a shot at a championship. Thus igniting one of the more entertaining adventures in Twitter history.

With Doc Rivers already in town, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, J.J. Redick and Paul Pierce all convened at Jordan’s Houston home.

Emojis were fired off left and right as each player made known they were en route. Pierce famously tweeted a picture of a rocketship. Griffin, ever the comic, sent out a picture of Jordan’s front door boarded up by a chair.

Whatever tactics LA’s ensemble used on the final day of the moratorium worked, as Jordan re-signed with the Clippers soon after midnight.

The only thing we don’t completely know about Jordan’s free agency backtrack is whether or not Mark Cuban did, in fact, drive around Houston looking for Jordan’s home — which Cuban denies.

That wouldn’t make the detail’s behind Jordan’s return to the Clippers from each of its main characters any less entertaining to look back on. Considering how one-of-a-kind the conclusion developed into.
