Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers appeared to be right atop the Eastern Conference with the Milwaukee Bucks before the NBA season began because of their revamped roster. However, plagued by devastating injuries and significant spacing issues, the team spiraled out of control fast and landed in the 6-seed when the season dramatically halted.

Both Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid having missed significant time played a part in why the team fell short of expectations. The tandem were both injured around the same time, Simmons having suffered a back injury on February 22nd, and Embiid only having played in three games since then as well with a back injury.

Without Simmons and Embiid in the lineup, the 76ers championship chances nosedived immediately. However, with this hiatus having provided them time to recuperate back to full strength, a turning point could be nearing. Given that the tandem returns healthy when the NBA potentially returns, the 76ers could still undoubtedly contend, no matter where they are seeded.

However, that would be a lot easier said than done, as the team’s issues would still be apparent, particularly the spacing issues between Simmons, Embiid, and Al Horford. Regardless, if Josh Richardson and Tobias Harris can spark some offense, this team could potentially have a turnaround. It will not be easy by any means, but if entirely healthy and firing on all cylinders, this Philadelphia team could still make a run at a title.

On paper, this team has one of the most prolific starting lineups throughout the association, and their bench proved to be substantial as well when Embiid and Simmons missed time. Furkan Korkmaz, Alec Burks, Shake Milton, and others showcased their talents with increased roles before the season got suspended, and could be a significant factor in their future success.

Overall, there will be a plethora of factors that go into Philadelphia’s chances of contending if the NBA season resumes, but their health stands atop the list. Led by one of the league’s most astounding young duos in Simmons and Embiid, health could be the most prominent factor standing in the way of their title aspirations.
