NBA 2004 Redraft: Picking between high school and college champions

#22 Pick: Kris Humphries (Originally: Viktor Khryapa)

In another draft-day trade, the Nets sent this pick to the Blazers for Eddie Gill and cash for their first of back to back picks. We gave them Tony Allen with our earlier redraft selection. Khryapa was part of the swap that brought LaMarcus Aldridge to Portland but otherwise his brief NBA career is not noteworthy. He was much more successful after returning to the EuroLeague.

To spoil the next pick to an extent, we will be giving the Blazers two big men to start building to the future with. Neither will be stars, but they will be solid contributors for whatever team they would end up on, either with the Blazers or flipped to the Bulls in the aforementioned Aldridge swap.

Kris Humphries ended up becoming the target of laughter because of his off the court situation with the Kardashians. However the production on the court was there when he was given an opportunity.

There was only one season where he averaged more than 28 minutes per game, in 2011-2012 where he averaged 34.9 minutes per game. He proceeded to average 13.8 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. Pairing him with the next selection and Tony Allen could have given the Blazers three players to fill out the bench as they transition into their next competitive era.
