New York Knicks: 5 realistic options in upcoming free agency
By Dalton Sell
2. Danilo Gallinari
Danilo Gallinari should be one of the top candidates on their free agency wish list. Gallinari flourished with the Oklahoma City Thunder this past season, and much like Bertans could provide the team with a significant boost on the offensive side of the ball.
In 55 games, Gallinari was a crucial part of Oklahoma City’s success having averaged 19.2 points per game on 43.9 percent field goal shooting and a stellar 40.9 percent shooting from behind the arc. The 31-year-old’s phenomenal play potentially earned him a lucrative payday in free agency, and the Knicks should make their pitch.
A player with an offensive skill set of Gallinari’s is precisely what they need, and they could potentially have a realistic shot to land him in free agency.
Having appeared on NBA TV recently, Gallinari said, “We keep that option open too,” when asked about a potential reunion with the team that drafted him. If there is mutual interest between the two, the Knicks have the flexibility required to get a deal done.
The forward’s lethal 3-point shooting would provide a significant boost to this team that desperately needs it. Whether the Thunder will try to retain Gallinari or not, the Knicks should at least try to bring back their former lottery pick as one of their top priorities.
