New York Knicks: 5 realistic options in upcoming free agency
By Dalton Sell
4. Jeff Teague
Much like Alec Burks, Jeff Teague is a suitable candidate for New York;s point guard needs. A former All-Star, Teague has bounced around the league the past few seasons, and the Knicks should look to land him in free agency for the right price.
An 11-year veteran, Teague has been a starter for most of his career but adapted to being a backup to Trae Young for part of last season when he got traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Although cut short due to the suspension of the league, the 31-year-old could be a valuable piece to put behind the team’s point guard they could potentially draft.
As a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks this past season, Teague averaged 10.9 points, 5.2 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game. Although he might not have been the All-Star point guard he once was, Teague could still be a valuable backup option for a team like the Knicks.
Aside from the team’s immediate help at the position, Teague’s veteran experience could also be a benefiting factor if they do indeed select a point guard as he could potentially be a mentor as well. Overall, for his veteran presence and probable spark off the bench, targeting a guy like Jeff Teague for a reserve role could work out well for both sides.
