New York Knicks: 5 realistic options in upcoming free agency
By Dalton Sell
5. Alec Burks
The point guard has become a position similar to a revolving door for the Knicks, as the team cannot find a suitable player to stick with long-term. Derrick Rose, Trey Burke, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Jarrett Jack are just a few notable names that attempted to take the mantle in recent memory but are ultimately no longer on the team.
Dennis Smith Jr. is the latest name many believed could revitalize the position for the Knicks, but even he has not panned out. With their little success at the guard position, drafting one would be smart, but so would bringing in a veteran to play behind him.
Alec Burks was in the middle of a career year before the NBA suspended play, having averaged 15.1 points per game on 36.6 3-point shooting. Bringing him aboard to be the team’s sixth man would not be a bad idea if they do indeed select a point guard, given that he can provide a powerful spark off the bench for any team.
Although Burks had a career-year, the guard likely will not demand a lucrative payday in free agency, something well within New York’s ability without breaking the bank. For a team with reoccurring issues at the point guard position, Alec Burks would be a smart idea as a free agent target.
