Kelly Oubre Jr.

Boy oh boy, where do we start with the Tsunami Papi himself? Kelly Oubre Jr. was a popular case for the Phoenix Suns, almost putting the team on the map.

The 2019-20 season was Oubre’s season, easily. He was a dangerous, energetic player to take down, and he was an impressive factor on this young squad. “Energetic” is the word to describe Oubre, especially when you pair it with impressive athletic ability. Oubre improved as a scorer, defender, and a clutch scorer. He terrorized offenses in both the paint and on the perimeter. He was fantastic as a slashing forward, and he was able to play on the perimeter as a shooter.

In 56 games, Oubre averaged an impressive 18.7 points per game, with 6.4 rebounds per game and 1.3 steals per game. He made a massive leap from his prior season in Phoenix after he got traded from the Washington Wizards. Oubre was one of those players who impacted the Suns earlier on in the season, giving the Suns a hot start with some impressive wins against the Sixers and the Clippers. It’s a shame he was forced to undertake surgery in the middle of the season.

Oubre’s best games throughout the season were fantastic. He had blown up against the Houston Rockets, scoring 39 points, with 9 rebounds and two steals in a massive blowout win. At the young age of 24, Oubre was very solid in his season and will make a massive improvement as he blossoms into a dangerous scorer and defender.

I wrote a piece on Oubre’s fantastic season earlier in the month if you want any more reason to jump on the Tsunami.

His only issue was his lack of playmaking, which was a minor problem for the young star. He had some terrible instances of tunnel vision, which is a red alert for his growth as a player.

Still, Oubre was a superstar this season, it’s worth putting your money into an Oubre Jr. jersey, because the Suns would be ridiculous to replace the Wave Papi.
