Toronto Raptors: Player grades based off preseason expectations

Terence Davis: A
You would be lying if you said that you thought Terence Davis was going to have an All-Rookie type of season. No general manager wanted to draft Davis and sign him to an NBA contract until his breakout summer league game with the Denver Nuggets, and Masai Ujiri made a swing.
Even after he showcased his athleticism and strong shooting ability, there was still a lot of belief that Davis would spend the majority of the season in the G-League.
The big word surrounding him was “potential.” He had the potential to become a strong rotational NBA player, but this year was going to be mainly about development.
I was slightly higher on him than most people, but in no way did I see Davis having four games with 20 or more points, let alone even one. I always believed he was good enough to make the Raptors roster and be a consistent piece, but having players like Kyle Lowry, Fred VanVleet, and Norman Powell, it would be difficult for him to find playing time.
Maybe if it weren’t for the large sum of injuries, Davis wouldn’t have played, but he did, and he made the most of his opportunities. I would be extremely shocked if Davis didn’t end up on an All-Rookie team after the season, and the 22-year-old should have a very solid career going forward.
