3. Chris Paul vs Stephen Curry

Pretty much every player in the league would like a bounce off Stephen Curry, because of how he swooped in to change the game and become universally loved with his 3-point shooting in the process. Playing against somebody like LeBron James wouldn’t be as fun as you’d think though, because they play such a different brand of game that the styles wouldn’t match up.

Much like boxing and MMA, styles can make matchups, and while it would be fun to watch Curry drain 3-pointers in LeBron’s face, we know James can get to the bucket at will. It would become about seeing how often Curry could hit a three compared to James getting to the bucket every time. So let’s give the assignment to Chris Paul instead.

The rivalry here is so layered that it makes perfect sense. Paul has been on of the best defenders in the league for years, and while age is catching up with him, he is smart enough to hang with somebody of similar enough height (Curry is the bigger of the two), most of the time. More than that though, Curry blocked Paul’s path to a ring on multiple occasions.

Firstly when he was with the L.A. Clippers, when it looked like they had a roster capable of winning a championship. Instead, Curry and the Golden State Warriors emerged from the West, and the Clippers eventually disbanded. Then with the Houston Rockets, who were a Paul hamstring injury away from potentially getting to the finals at the expense of the Warriors.

Now a part of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Paul’s title window has closed unless he can get a move elsewhere. Given how competitive he is (which turns a lot of people off, but he was so into the most recent All-Star game that came down to the wire which added to the fun), the chance to take down Curry is a one-on-one game would give him some bragging rights.

Curry’s teams might have been better down through the years, but if you had to pick one pure point guard to lead your team for 15 years, Paul would be a safer choice. This would be a fascinating battle, full of trash-talking on Paul’s side and Curry knocking down ridiculous shots and smiling in the process. A dream scenario and the perfect start to a fictional main card.
