2. Chris Paul’s coming out party

The Oklahoma City Thunder got off to a slow start this season — bringing a 4-7 record back home on Nov. 25 to face the Philadelphia 76ers.

Newly acquired veteran Chris Paul was coming off one of his worst performances of the season in Indiana three days prior.

The Pacers held him to seven points on seven shots in a 111-85 loss.

The 34-year-old point guard rebounded that following Friday night against the Sixers — scoring his highest point total of the season to that point with 27 in the Thunder’s 127-119 overtime victory.

“I think the coaches did a great job challenging us the way we got bullied against the Pacers, so I think we showed what we’re capable of, ” Paul told reporters after the game.

He scored 12 of those 27 in the 4th quarter.

Paul started his career in Oklahoma City when the Hornets were forced from New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina.

This thrilling victory over the Sixers served as the first heroic act of his return to the city that embraced him in its time before the Thunder came to town.

“Hopefully we can get to the point where we don’t have to get knocked down to get back up,” Paul said.

He’d go on to play well enough to represent the Thunder in the All-Star Game — his first appearance since the 2015-16 season.

The season came to a stop in Oklahoma City the night COVID-19 hit the Jazz.

Before that abrupt stop, Paul was averaging 17.7 points, 6.8 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 63 games played — the most he’s played since that 2015-16 season with the LA Clippers.
