The Oklahoma City Thunder exceeded expectations after their offseason shakeup which made for a fun season yet to be finished in 2020.

The Oklahoma City Thunder began the 2019-20 NBA season with low expectations.

The Thunder traded away their city’s greatest player in Russell Westbrook for an aging superstar in Chris Paul late in the offseason.

Days before that trade, the team dealt away Paul George who placed third in the league’s MVP vote for the 2019-20 season.

George and Westbrook led the team in minutes played last season followed by Steven Adams and Jerami Grant — and Grant was also dealt away in the offseason.

ESPN released preseason predictions from their analysts for the 2019-20 season after those trades and had the Thunder finishing 33-49 in 13th place in the Western Conference.

Enter Chris Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Danillo Gallinari.

The new trio in Oklahoma City led the team to a 40-24 record before the league’s stoppage in play — good for the 5th seed in the West.

Paul has seen a resurgence in his 15th year while leading a young team to a potential home playoff series.

Gilgeous-Alexander has shown he can be a permanent part of the franchise’s backcourt in the future.

Gallinari shook the injury bug this season and shrugged off the trade rumors to average a career-high 19.2 points per game.

Most of all, the team looks to be having fun exceeding their preseason expectations.

In what seemed like a lost season, the Thunder delivered in the games they’ve played so far.
