Caris LeVert

Caris LeVert of the Brooklyn Nets may not have the word “star” attached to his name just yet, but he appears to be on his way. Having come into the league in 2016, LeVert has statistically improved each season of his career, which included a significant leap forward this year.

Having played in 39 games, the 25-year-old averaged 17.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.1 rebounds per game as started in 25 of those appearances. With Kyrie Irving having missed a majority of the season with injuries and Kevin Durant having missed the entire season due to Achilles rehab, LeVert managed the team in their absence.

Still, Brooklyn reportedly could go all-in for a third star this summer to pair with Durant and Irving, and LeVert could be a piece involved. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst suggested this on the Hoop Collective podcast: “I believe they have telegraphed they intend to use some of their young talent to acquire a third star along with Kyrie and Durant.”

If the team intends to pursue a star player such as Victor Oladipo or Bradley Beal, LeVert will undoubtedly be the most prominent name on Brooklyn’s end. LeVert’s three-year, $52 million contract signed this past offseason may scare some teams off, but for an ascending star, making a move for him could pay off in the long run.

It is unfortunate that the Brooklyn Nets do not think Caris LeVert could be that third option alongside Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, but if a team makes a move for him, they could get a good piece moving forward in return.
