Marco Belinelli

Next, we have a blast from the past in veteran wing Marco Belinelli of the San Antonio Spurs. Now, it’s safe to say that when Belinelli left the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer of 2018, many fans were upset. While Belinelli isn’t the best player in the world, he’s one heck of a shooter.

Over the course of his career, Marco Belinelli has shown that he can knock down the three-ball almost at will. While a little streaky, Belinelli hits threes at an above-average rate. Over the course of his career, Belinelli has averaged a solid 37.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Now, Marco Belinelli’s first run with the Philadelphia 76ers had its highs and its lows. For instance, he and Ersan Ilyasova were depended on to provide a bulk of the offense. Particularly, their job was simply to take shots. The problem lay in the fact that Belinelli is not a proficient defender. He tends to slack on defense, leaving the team prone to picking up the pieces.

However, this is a new Sixers team. Specifically, because the Sixers are much deeper now. Belinelli would be more of a complementary piece than a significant contributor. Given the improvement of Furkan Korkmaz and Matisse Thybulle, the Sixers simply won’t need to rely on Belinelli to play big minutes. Instead, he will have a clear-cut role designed for a player of his skill.

Again, the Sixers lack prolific shooting across the board. While it may not be the most attractive pickup, bringing back Belinelli could help with spacing concerns. While he may be a bit of a liability on defense, the acquisition would be helpful enough, as you don’t need Belinelli to play big minutes anymore. As such, Marco Belinelli could provide that spark that the Philadelphia 76ers are missing.
