Jahmi’us Ramsey, SG, Texas Tech

A former top recruit, Jahmi’us Ramsey comes into the 2020 NBA Draft as one of the favorite names to mention alongside the Lakers. Young and raw with plenty of upside, the Texas Tech product offers enough intrigue to consider tossing in with LeBron and AD in 2020.

What Ramsey brings to the floor is exceptional athleticism, shooting and a knack for getting to the rim. While not the most explosive athlete in the class, he’s more than capable of throwing down a monster dunk and flying in for a circus layup. He’s good at working to get open off the ball and is one of the better jump shooters in the 2020 draft class.

Now there are some reasons why he will likely be available when the Lakers are on the clock. At 6’4″, he doesn’t offer ideal size for a shooting guard or small forward. On top of that, he hasn’t shown enough playmaking ability (2.2 assists per game, 16.1 assist percentage in 2019-20) to warrant a move to point guard. His defense isn’t bad, but he didn’t stand out enough on that end to consider him any sort of 3-and-D specialist.

Really, Ramsey is a sharpshooter who needs some time to develop the other tools in his toolbox. With that said, his shooting prowess makes him a legitimate option for the Lakers, who need more reliable weapons off the bench who can put the ball in the basket.

Ramsey may be a project in terms of developing into a starting-caliber guard. However, if the Lakers solely want to upgrade the bench’s shooting ability, he makes sense at the end of the first.
