Number 8: DeAndre’ Bembry

DeAndre’ Bembry was an exciting entry into the Hawks University system that was being run by Mike Budenholzer and seemed to have potential along with fellow draftee Taurean Prince. He is the first person on this list to complete his rookie contract with the Hawks, although he has not yet reached his potential.

His third season in the league has been his best so far, appearing in all 82 games and averaged 8.4 points and 4.4 rebounds. He was drafted with the hopes that he could be molded into the 3-and-D prospect that every team seems to be looking for but his shooting has just not developed.

He is a career 26.9 percent 3-point shooter and has been surpassed by other, young prospects for the Hawks given that they have had multiple first-round picks in each of the last few drafts.

Bembry may be able to find a better fit this summer, given that he is likely one of the young prospects on the outside looking in as the team looks to build around Young. He was picked by a different front office so there is not the connection to keep him there going forward. Given a chance he could still prove worthy of the place he was selected in the draft. If only Pascal Siakam had not gone six picks later.
