Number 9: Omari Spellman

Omari Spellman is in a tough place on this list as he was the third of three first-round picks for the Hawks in a draft where they traded down from taking Luka Doncic. However, considering he was only drafted on June 21, 2018, and he has already been traded twice does not bode well for his place on this list.

He only appeared in 46 games for the Hawks and averaged 5.9 points and 4.2 rebounds in only 17.5 minutes per game. He was sent to the Golden State Warriors over the summer in exchange for Damian Jones and a 2026 second-round pick.

For Golden State this season he improved to 7.6 rebounds and 4.5 rebounds in 18.1 minutes per game.  He was then included in the D’Angelo Russell trade to make the money work and has yet to appear in a game for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

So far he has been impressive in a G-League setting and has been a solid 3-point shooter (39.1 percent this season) for his position as well as a solid rebounder. The book is not yet written on Spellman in the way that it already has been for Payne.

Better players could have been selected here like Kendrick Nunn (undrafted) or Mitchell Robinson (Number 36) but overall not the worst selection. The potential is still intriguing if he is ever able to put it all together.
