Atlanta Hawks: Ranking the last 10 first round picks
By Corey Rausch
Number 1: Trae Young
As the only All-Star on this list, it was the obvious choice. Young has been a sensation for the Atlanta Hawks from day one. He finished second in Rookie of the Year after averaging 19.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 0.9 steals per game. Somehow that was not enough for the young former Oklahoma Sooner, as he jumped to a stunning 29.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 9.3 assists and 1.1 steals.
Young is already an elite scorer at only 21 years of age and makes his teammates better with pinpoint passing. He needs to improve as a defensive player and that may never be a part of his game. Building around that deficiency will be of the utmost importance for the Hawks but they are on the right track.
Young will always be connected for the guy he was traded for on draft night and finished just behind in Rookie of the Year voting, Luka Doncic. While Doncic has been phenomenal the Hawks did well by themselves in the exchange.
Young has changed the culture in Atlanta already and will be a driving factor in whatever winning is to come. The debate between these two will rage throughout their careers but it is indisputable that Trae Young is a star and the best Hawks pick in recent memory.
