Jaylen Brown

After having regressed statistically in his third NBA season in the 2018-19 campaign, many were puzzled when the Boston Celtics offered former No. 3 overall Jaylen Brown a four-year, $115 million extension this past summer. Boston clearly saw something special in their guy, and for a good reason, as he had a breakout season for them this year.

The guard had a career-year with the Celtics, having averaged 20.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, as he had blown his previous career-bests out of the water. Many believed that Brown’s breakout season should have earned him an All-Star debut, and in this case, they might have had a point.

Having played alongside two other All-Stars in Kemba Walker and Jayson Tatum diluted his chances of being an All-Star, even if his numbers proved he deserved it. Still, snubbed or not, if Brown can play as he did or even take another leap forward next season, he will undoubtedly be in that discussion.

At just 23-years-old, Brown is one of the NBA’s ascending stars, even if his teammate’s play has often overshadowed his stellar play. Having been the third option on his team has taken a hit for his All-Star aspirations, but as long as he continues to develop, his time should come soon enough.

Still, with the snub potentially on his mind next season, the odds of Jaylen Brown allowing that to happen again are slim to none.
