2016 NBA Redraft: Too soon for conclusions and answers

While most of these players have not yet finished their rookie contracts a lot has already changed in this redraft. We look at a chaotic 2016 NBA Draft.

One of the more polarizing draft debates in recent history came in 2016. Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram were stars coming out of high school and after very different college seasons the debate between the two of them made up the majority of the pre-draft discussion.

Simmons had been leading as the better professional player thus far but Brandon Ingram closed that gap significantly this season for the New Orleans Pelicans. Both are All-Stars already and are realizing the potential that had them locked in as the tops two picks in the draft.

However, there is more to this draft than the top two guys. While it is only four years later there are many high impact players in this draft who have already impressed at the highest levels.

Furthermore, the back part of this redraft is filled with players that may have not succeeded as of yet but have the potential to contribute for years to come. Giving them more than the four seasons to realize that potential could make a lot of this redraft look silly in a few years’ time, but that is part of the fun. This pool of players is loaded with untapped potential and with their contracts expiring this season a change of scenery may be all they needed, just like Brandon Ingram.

We are fully in the Process era of the Sixers, coming off a season where their former lottery pick Joel Embiid has missed a second season and Jahlil Okafor was not all they had hoped he would be. They had plenty of big men and were looking for the perimeter player to best compliment them. With that in mind, the pick is in.
