3 most pressing NBA Draft needs for the Philadelphia 76ers
By Pete Sawan
Backup center
Finally, the Philadelphia 76ers could use the NBA Draft to address their issue at backup center. Now, the Sixers do already have Kyle O’Quinn and Norvel Pelle, but it couldn’t hurt to add some depth to the roster. O’Quinn is easily expendable, as he is 30 years old and on a one-year deal as it is.
Now, Pelle is definitely an interesting piece. He has shown that he can defend and rebound fairly well. However, Pelle does not get a ton of minutes, either. This could simply be because of the fact that the Sixers have Embiid, Horford, Scott, and O’Quinn already eating up minutes. It could be inferred that the Sixers could just let Pelle walk in free agency anyway.
In addition, it might be more enticing for the Philadelphia 76ers to take a big-man in the NBA Draft because it would give them more control. That is to say, the Sixers would be able to offer that player a rookie contract that is already set. If there’s anything a franchise loves, it’s control. A rookie would be a cheap alternative to offering Pelle a relatively decent contract.
For what it’s worth, this year’s NBA Draft has a ton of big-men that will likely be available when the Sixers are picking. It would be important for the Sixers to weigh their options, as they can go a ton of ways. This will be one Elton Brand’s biggest tests yet, as he was able to hit on Matisse Thybulle already. Overall, it is important for the Sixers to build the bench through the draft so that they can continue to see sustained success in the future.
Some players for the Philadelphia 76ers to consider: Isaiah Stewart, Zeke Nnaji, Udoka Azubuike
