Backup point guard

Now, the Philadelphia 76ers have had a backup point guard problem for the better part of the past decade. While the team has most likely found their lead guard of the future in Ben Simmons, the minutes where he is not player have been a bit of a struggle. The Sixers have gone through a carousel of players, but have not fully solidified that spot.

The most obvious stopgap from the past few years was T.J. McConnell. A fan favorite, McConnell went from undrafted free agent to lineup mainstay over the course of his career. He signed with the Indiana Pacers last off-season, and the Sixers lost the only true backup point guard on the roster.

The Sixers tried to replace McConnell with the tandem of Raul Neto and Trey Burke. Burke seemed like he was going to be the answer because he can get his own shot, but simply did not work out. Neto has been streaky, surprising fans with his game every now and again. However, it may make sense for the Sixers to look elsewhere.

Now, what about Shake Milton? Personally, I see Shake being an important part of the bench starting next season. Milton has been impressive in his short stints with the main roster. He had one massive game against the Los Angeles Clippers where he went off for 39 points and hit seven of his nine 3-pointers. So it would be feasible to assume it’s Milton’s job to lose, in a sense.

Some players for the Philadelphia 76ers to consider: RJ Hampton, Tyrell Terry, Devon Dotson.
