New York Knicks

If there is any team that needs a superstar like Anthony Davis this offseason, it is the New York Knicks. They struck out last season when they believed there was a genuine chance of landing Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and the potential first overall draft choice to select Duke phenom Zion Williamson, which resulted in another mediocre 2019-20 campaign.

The Knicks have not made the postseason since the 2013 season, and have served as one of the NBA’s most subpar teams since then. All in all, they need a player to come in and rejuvenate a once top-tier franchise, and Davis could be that guy.

In a piece released earlier this season, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst revealed that Davis indeed was reportedly interested in playing for the Knicks before he got traded to the Lakers. However, the Knicks were turned off by dealing for Davis because of the Pelicans’ massive asking price for the superstar and did not want to “undercut their long-range plan,” by giving up such a significant haul. Since New York ultimately missed out on two star players in the last offseason, going all-in for Davis is a viable option for them in free agency.

Ian Begley of SNY reported that the Knicks may be interested in Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul, stating, “there are still people with the Knicks that feel bringing Chris Paul onto the roster at this time would jumpstart the franchise’s effort to build a winning culture.”

If the Knicks were to lure Davis away from the Lakers and pull off a blockbuster trade to land Paul, they would have a top-tier duo on their hands that would undoubtedly help their winning aspirations. The Knicks are in desperate need of star-power and signing an ascending superstar while trading for one of the most accomplished guards in NBA history would not be a bad start.
