NBA Draft: Re-drafting the 2008 NBA Draft’s first round
By Zach Wilson
#8 Pick – Milwaukee Bucks: Eric Gordon (Originally: Joe Alexander)
Eric Gordon, like Gallinari, encountered a blip amid his career with the New Orleans Hornets/Pelicans. The good news, no injury put him out for an entire season. The bad news, his major injuries occurred right in the middle of his best seasons.
In his young 20s, Gordon had multiple seasons where he averaged over 20 points per game and remains a guy averaging in the mid-to-high teens. He’s a fantastic shooter with a 42.5/37/81.1 career shooting splits and isn’t necessarily a slouch defensively.
His current situation in Houston places him at the perfect place for the current moment of his career as a 3-and-D player beside two of the best creators in the league.
Aside from his All-Rookie recognition, Gordon’s sole award came in 2017, where he earned Sixth Man of the Year honors.
Even though Gordon showed a slight drop-off in production this year, I would still expect him to be an efficient player for a couple more years. Injuries and durability haven’t necessarily been in his favor, but Gordon continues to battle through and has earned himself the right to be picked No. 8 in this re-draft.
