NBA Draft: Re-drafting the 2008 NBA Draft’s first round
By Zach Wilson
#26 Pick – San Antonio Spurs: Omer Asik (Originally: George Hill)
Due to his contract, which kept him playing in Europe for a couple of seasons, Asik didn’t play in the NBA till the 2010 season.
He had an average career, one that would make the back-up center fan club proud. He was a big body who could come in and do everything at an average rate. He was never superb at a single skill, but he held is own within the league for eight seasons.
Originally a member of the Bulls from 2010-12, his bruising physique was ideal for the Tom Thibodeau-led teams that reached as far as the conference finals, even if it was in a limited role off the bench.
His standout year was in 2012-2013 as a member of the Houston Rockets, where Asik averaged a double-double of 10.1 points per game and 11.7 rebounds per game.
As a backup center, Asik filled his role at an average rate. He was worth the late-first round selection, but nothing higher than this.
