NBA Draft: Re-drafting the 2008 NBA Draft’s first round
By Zach Wilson
#14 Pick – Golden State Warriors: Robin Lopez (Originally: Anthony Randolph)
As a family, you’re doing fairly well when twin brothers are both capable of being top-15 picks in their draft class. Robin is the weaker of the two Lopez brothers but still has had a solid career up to this point.
Lopez has bounced around six different organizations, flipping back-and-forth between the bench and starting roles. At his peak, Lopez was only a couple rebounds away from averaging a double-double, putting up 11.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 55.1 percent from the field.
Robin, like his brother Brook, made his way to Milwaukee and has had to adapt to becoming a 3-point shooter. Robin Lopez had only attempted 51 3-pointers throughout his first 11 seasons in the league and is already at 96 looks this season.
At 34.4 percent, he’s shooting them at a fairly good clip considering it is only his first season being encouraged to play more around the perimeter. It’s a more efficient rate than Brook’s 29.6 conversion rate this season.
As he drifts into his 30s, it seems that Lopez has found a comfortable role in Milwaukee. A spot that allows him to compete on a team capable of winning a championship and not be relied on to do too much.
