NBA: 7 players who could be on the trade block this summer
6. Al Horford
Even just 60 games in, it seems the Philadelphia 76ers are ready to call it quits on the Al Horford experiment. And honestly, if it weren’t for his salary (owed $97 million over the next three seasons), they’d probably roll him back out again next year.
Horford wasn’t unimpressive in his first year with Philadelphia. The big man posted averages of 12 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 60 appearances. He’s taken on an even lesser role than he was used to with the Boston Celtics or Atlanta Hawks, and you wouldn’t know without the stats.
But playing him next to three guys who all need the ball to be productive in Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, and Joel Embiid has proven difficult for Horford’s fit on this team.
Nonetheless, the 33-year-old is a respected veteran league-wide. Teams may be willing to pay some form of a price solely in exchange for his locker room presence and vast experience.
And with the 76ers no doubt going shopping for some shooting help this summer, Horford is the most obvious and most expendable trade piece. All three of the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, or Cleveland Cavaliers make sense as possible destinations.
