NBA: 7 players who could be on the trade block this summer
7. Aaron Gordon
One of the more obvious names to watch this summer is Aaron Gordon. After six seasons with the Orlando Magic and years of trade rumors, he may finally be on his way out of Florida.
A number of teams made calls to the Magic at the February trade deadline inquiring on the forward’s availability, but Orlando elected to hold out for the summer and the best package.
He didn’t have a bad season at all: 14.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. Gordon improved his ball-handling and scoring efficiency on a Magic team with a logjam in the frontcourt.
Orlando would have (and still may) go on to make the postseason at 30-35. But it’s clear they’ve got room for improvement across the entire roster, and Gordon’s their best trade chip not named Jonathan Isaac, who showed groundbreaking promise as a defender this season.
At just 24 years old, the forward has two years and $34.5 million left on his extension from 2018. And the Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers, and Phoenix Suns were all rumored to be interested at the deadline.
But with the Warriors having traded for Andrew Wiggins at the deadline, and the Timberwolves primarily engaged in the restricted free agency of Malik Beasley; the other three teams seem the more likely suitors for Gordon and the Magic’s (likely high) asking price.
