Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have their stars in place with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant forming a duo that, when healthy, can contend for a championship. Their offensive abilities are off the charts and adding the defensive-minded Thibodeau could elevate a capable roster.

Durant is in favor of Thibodeau, a source told the Post’s Berman.

"“Kevin’s a basketball junkie, he loves him,’’ one NBA source familiar with the situation said. “Great players want to be coached, except the lazy ones. If they think the coach has a higher basketball IQ than them, they’re all in.’’"

The downside of coaching the Nets is the roster is gridlocked, but at least its with serviceable players. DeAndre Jordan, Caris LeVert, Spencer Dinwiddie and Taurean Prince are among players signed for multiple seasons with Durant and Irving. That stability is the upside part of a gridlocked roster.

Admittedly, this is a fit that could lure Thibodeau away from what the Timberwolves are paying him. It’s going to be a competitive roster that features versatility up and down the roster. The Nets also have capable 3-point shooters that can take matters into their own hands, since Thibodeau’s teams have not finished above 16th in 3s.

Kenny Atkinson wasn’t the right man to lead the Nets forward but Thibodeau could fill that void and return the Nets to the upper echelon of the NBA.
