Washington Wizards: 3 potential Ian Mahinmi replacements
JaVale McGee
Should the Wizards mull over a reunion with 2008 draft pick JaVale McGee?
The 12-year veteran center started his career in Washington, but was eventually traded halfway through his best year with the Wizards to the Denver Nuggets.
Most recently, however, McGee played a role in two of the Golden State Warriors’ championships and then signed a two-year deal worth $8.2 million to join LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The second year, however, holds a player option for $4.2 million, and the 32-year old big man could opt out looking to make the most of his last, substantial contract. Cue the Wizards.
McGee has made a name for himself in the NBA postseason over the last few years, and the Wizards will accept nothing short of a playoff berth for the 2020-2021 campaign.
This past season with the Lakers, the big man averaged 6.8 points and 5.8 rebounds next to prominent rim protector and rebounder Anthony Davis. When considering the cost, McGee makes a lot of sense for Washington and what they’re looking for at center.
And in order for the big man to capitalize on one of his last opportunities as a free agent, he’ll be looking to sign somewhere he can play a large role. He could have that, and more in Washington.
