Another team that was interested in Derrick Rose before this year’s NBA trade deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers, should continue their pursuit this offseason. The team has an array of experienced guards on their team already, but Rose seemed to be a top priority for them through trade.

The team has one of the best tandems in the NBA with LeBron James and Anthony Davis but struggled all year with finding who the third star was. Certain games it appeared that it was Kyle Kuzma, others Avery Bradley, and sometimes Rajon Rondo.

The Lakers’ offense struggled throughout the year because of their lack of a certified third scorer, which was the biggest concern regarding their title aspirations. With Rose, however, the team would have a solidified third option and lessen the load for James and Davis.

When James is not on the floor, the Lakers are a completely different team, and their lackluster offense shows it. With Rose’s ability to create his own shot and thrive in the pick-and-roll, his offensive presence is something Los Angeles could use to boost their title hopes significantly.

Shams Charina of The Athletic reported that before the deadline that the Lakers offered the Pistons a combination of Alex Caruso and draft compensation in exchange for the former MVP, but nothing ever came of it. With their interest in Rose likely still there, the Lakers should pursue him again this offseason.
