3. Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant hasn’t been seen on the court since he ruptured his Achilles tendon in the 2019 NBA Finals while playing for the Golden State Warriors. An offseason move to the Brooklyn Nets followed, and while it was assumed that Durant would be out for the year, the unexpected stop to games means that if the league were to come back, then we might see Durant sooner than expected.

Certainly, LeBron James is all in for this happening, but we as fans should want to see Durant back on the court as soon as possible for a whole host of reasons. He might be the most skilled pure offensive player since Michael Jordan himself, and while that is a bold claim you only need to rewatch some of his best games (you’ve got the time) to see why.

His game is missed on the court, no matter who he is playing for. It just so happens that he is now on a Nets team that also features good friend Kyrie Irving, a recipe for some excellent basketball. More than that though these could be the thinking person’s basketball tandem, their off the court personas and beliefs as interesting as what they do on it.

Durant is also a guy who has no problem jumping on Twitter to defend himself or prove a point, and that’s without even bringing up the infamous burner accounts that were previously discovered. You put all of these facts together, and the return of Durant is something that we should all be excited about, and you can bet how the player himself handles it is only going to add to the drama.

If he hits the ground running and looks mostly like the player he was before injury, he is going to let people know about it. But if he didn’t or it doesn’t click right away with Irving, how long before one of them says something to offend or annoy the other? These are two guys who like things done their way after all, and have been vocal and cryptic about their feelings in the past.

Purely from a basketball standpoint though, the league is a better place with Durant in it. He helps create another contender in the East with the Nets, and playing in New York will bring some star power back to that coast, after many of the best player in the NBA moved West the previous summer.
