#3 Pick: D’Angelo Russell (Originally: Jahlil Okafor)
D’Angelo Russell still makes complete sense in the top three and fits in Philadelphia very well. The likelihood of things working out for him in Los Angeles were low. He was not mature enough at that time. Taking all the pressure away and putting him in the midst of the process to pair with Embiid in the future is much rosier.
Russell thrived once he got to Brooklyn, averaging 15.5 points and 21.1 points in his two seasons there. He is a smart passer and is able to play off the ball as well thanks to a strong three-point stroke. Russell has grown up a lot and has been better for it.
Situation matters a lot. Russell may be entering into the best situation he has ever been in with his friend in Minnesota. It is easy to imagine him and Embiid getting along similarly and accelerating the process. Do they still take Simmons the following season or go with Brandon Ingram. With a guard in place do they trade up for Fultz? Taking a guard over Jahlil Okafor could have changed things quite a bit.
