Redrafting the 2015 NBA Draft: Role players everywhere

#29 Pick: Trey Lyles (Originally: Chris McCullough)
With Brooklyn’s second shot in the first round, we are going with Trey Lyles, another Kentucky Wildcat from the undefeated run. There are actually some solid options left on the board that were worth considering but the pairing of Lyles and Tyus Jones, who we took for the Nets earlier, is enticing for me during a rebuild.
Lyles is simply reliable. He has appeared in more than 63 games in every season, and more than 71 in three of them. He is getting the most minutes of his career this season at 20.2 minutes per game and is posting averages of 6.4 points and 5.7 rebounds. He also increased his three-point shooting to 38.7 percent.
The potential is here. His per 36 minutes are stellar and he would have been thrown to the wolves early and often in Brooklyn and would have grown. Coach Kenny Atkinson showed an ability to build a culture and to develop young talent. Watching him work with Lyles and Jones together would have done both young players a lot of good after coming out of successful college situations after one season.
